About Us
Our History
Before PPoP existed, residential homes lined our Peachtree Road corridor interrupted only by three major churches whose commanding presence dominated the neighborhood. Second Ponce de Leon Church was completed in 1930, and Cathedral of Christ the King, built on land purchased from the Ku Klux Klan, followed in 1936. The third, Cathedral of St. Phillip, was completed in 1962.
But the landscape began to irrevocably change in the late sixties when the visionary architect, Ted Levy, designed Plaza Towers, a luxury apartment towers just south of PPoP. With its completion he saw an even greater opportunity. He would begin to transform Peachtree Road, in his words, to the "Atlanta equivalent of Park Avenue." The concept for Park Place was born! In 1974 he purchased 3.8 acres of land, residential lots where the Fleming, McCrea, Dannals and Hightower Houses stood, for 1.2 million dollars.
Two of the original homes on the Park Place site: Dannals House (top); Hightower House (bottom)
Levy’s sizeable investment was motivated by his firm belief that Atlanta was ready for sophisticated high rise living. His vision was to create a soaring edifice with an extraordinary feeling of light and space. To maximize exposure to light he envisioned that each unit would occupy a corner space, and to increase the number of corners the building would be octagonal, as opposed to the traditional rectangular shape. It was an unusual and bold idea at the time.
In 1985 after several setbacks, Levy and his business partner, John Kusmiersky, finally began construction of PPoP. Its completion two years later in 1987 was heralded by a grand celebration and much fanfare in local papers.
For nearly four decades, PPoP reigned as a distinctive presence on Peachtree Road. When the need to upgrade aging features of the building became evident, it served as an opportunity to completely modernize the building. PPoP marked another sentinel event in 2025: the completion of the first massive interior and exterior renovation. PPoP now has a stunning new porte cochère, expanded pool area, amenity garden (South Park), and a “Georgia Artist” original art collection for each of its elevator lobbies.
